Ladies' Fancywork Society Get What They Deserve

Hooked! Crew send their high-fives out to the Ladies' Fancywork Society this month, after finding these vids on Juxtapoz Magazine's website, about their latest Street-Art-For-Hire deal with the City of Denver. Not only are they working hard to make 16th Street prettier, but they're involving their community by inviting them to crochet some flowers to add to this art garden, and they're getting paid for it! Way to go, LFS!

Our First Newspaper and More Yarn Love

We so love living in a community that is so supportive of the arts. Imagine our bliss to see this in the paper July 15th!

 

"These lovely knitted and crocheted decorations mysteriously made their way into the trees at Jesse Turgeon Park beside the Guild a few weeks ago. No one seems to be able to identify who created them or why, but we do know we like them!" 

The newspaper photos were taken by Deanna Dence of the Hinton Voice.

So in thanks, we had to visit the Voice offices and leave a little something on their door.

And a dog poop baggy dispenser ruffle.  There were more bobbles and ornaments hung in trees throughout the park, unfortunately i did not take pics of them all.

It's July! Summer is in full swing and the crazed masses are out enjoying the weather and ... yarn bombing! I've just finished a piece I'm excited about, but I haven't installed it yet because I'm looking for the perfect place! I'll post pics when I do.

A quiet day at the park.

We were the only ones at the park,  luckily i had yarn with me.  I love the Crocheted Scalloped Tag from the Yarn Bombing so i tried it out, not as pretty but does the job!

For anyone needing help placing that call on our "confusing, Canadian pay phones."

I kid. Our payphones are awesomesauce, I'm sure. See the tag? Yeah. Amigurumi bling for the fashion-conscious beaver.

Finally, this installation in Burlington, a city which apparently removes yarn bombs pretty quickly, was put up to promote suicide awareness. The artists got permission from the business at this location and there will be more added through the week. Nice!

The moon in June..

...was not yet out when the Hooked! founders paid homage to the park next to The Guild, the local arts centre. It was a beautiful sunset but the pictures turn out looking pretty dark when you use a flash at dusk.
